            Here are just a small sample of the courses we frequently offer:

Gift Aid

This is for groups that are charities whether they are registered charities or not. It explains how Gift Aid works and can boost the income that groups receive from donations. The principles and procedures are explained clearly. Simple records are suggested and samples of forms to be used are included.

 
Accounts for Small Groups

This workshop looks at the accounts that a small voluntary group or charity will keep. It is based on accounts that a registered charity should keep but the principles will apply to most small groups. It would not include incorporated groups (companies) or a large charity. We look at recommended specimen accounts and also:

  • Trading by the group
  • Running a charity shop
  • Running a cafe
  • Full cost recovery
 
Full Cost Recovery & Pricing your Services

How you can use techniques to plan and monitor the performance of your activities; produce better reports for funders, members and trustees and prepare bids and costings for future funding.

 
Employment Status

Why it’s important that employed staff are correctly treated for Income tax and National Insurance contributions instead of being regarded as casuals or self-employed. How to determine whether someone is self-employed by looking at the features of their engagement. Further guidance and resources sources given.

 
Accounts & Spreadsheets

Designed for small groups, groups that are just starting or groups that have very basic records that they want to develop. It is also for individuals who have no background in accounts but who want to know how they can help a group. We look at some of the basic questions that have to be considered and how simple accounts can be made useful for the running of the group. Cash books and spreadsheets are covered.

Using Microsoft Excel, how spreadsheets can be used to keep simple records easily, quickly and securely. How spreadsheets allow the information to be shared and used more flexibly. This is intended for those with no background in Excel. It will allow very simple records to be kept accurately and safely.

 
Simple Bookkeeping

This is a Manual Bookkeeping course enabling you to perform basic recording and processing of bookkeeping transactions for a small or medium sized community group including:

  • Double entry system
  • Journal entries
  • Credit Control
  • Cash Book – the Imprest system
 
Introduction to VAT/Tax

This course is delivered by HMRC. If and how VAT applies to the purchases made or goods and services supplied by a group. Whether a group should be registered for VAT or if voluntary registration is appropriate. VAT concessions available to charities. Accounting for VAT including simplified schemes. More detailed consideration of the rules concerning particular topics such as the provision of care and teaching and training services. Included is a good look at tax as a whole.

 
Cash Flow Introduction
This course enables learners to gain the skills required to successfully complete and analyse  a cashflow forecast for their community group.
 
PAYE

This course provides a solid overview of what you need to do to operate PAYE including which forms you'll need, key dates and also how to use the free PAYE Software. It also provides links to detailed guidance and resources.
