What is a Healthcheck ?Top

The purpose of the Healthcheck is to enable local people to identify the economic, environmental and social strengths and weaknesses of Immingham and its surrounding area and the impact of changing local circumstances. Thus laying the foundations for creating an action plan for revitalisation and regeneration.

How does a Healthcheck work?Top

In order to facilitate this process a local proactive partnership will be set up. Incorporating representatives from interested parties within the community, voluntary, public and private sectors. The partnership will act as a steering group in this process.

Comprehensive research will need to be undertaken to collect primary and secondary data with regard to demographics, economic indicators, environmental, social and localised issues.
This will include consultation of public, private, voluntary and community sectors. This research will form a Snapshot of the area and a community vision for the area.

The partnership will play a key role in both obtaining data and feeding back information to the wider community by means of their access to the community they represent.
When all the research has been collected and analysed the partnership will then formulate an action plan for an Immingham Vision.

Why undertake a Healthcheck ?Top

The Countryside Agency currently has a drive to improve and enhance Market Towns and the Market Towns Healthcheck is the first stage in the process to access further funding for improving those areas. The Healthcheck provides the background information to the area and assess the needs and priorities for that area.
A market town is classified as a town with population range between 2,000 and 20,000 with the ability to serve people in both the town and its surrounding countryside. As such Immingham has managed to meet the criteria and has until the end March 2002 to complete the healthcheck.

TimescaleTop

Usually a Healthcheck takes six months to complete, unfortunately due to funding regimes Immingham's Healthcheck must be completed before the end of March 2002.

Who's Responsible ?Top

The Healthcheck was initiated by North East Lincolnshire Council's Community Regeneration Department with the Countryside Agency. The local authority required a lead organisation to organise and manage the healthcheck and invited the Community Economic Regeneration Team to facilitate the healthcheck process.
The Community Economic Regeneration Team are a local regeneration organisation located within the Immingham Resource Centre that are responsible for innovating and managing many successful projects such as the North East Lincolnshire Community Business project and the Communities Explored programme.
The partnership will ultimately be the body that discusses, assess and formulates the process of the healthcheck.

Where Next ?Top

The Healthcheck will provide an action plan and a Vision for Immingham and its surrounding area and this will be drawn up by the partnership and circulated to all interested parties to be endorsed.
The Partnership will be required to prepare applications for funding to implement the action plan. If funding applications are successful then the projects and initiatives that tackle the key priorities of the area will then commence.
