Information

Welcome/Introductions:

Rick welcomed everyone to the Immingham Health Check Steering Group Initial Meeting and asked each member to introduce themselves.

Information

Immingham Health Check & Time Scale:

Rick introduced the Health Check and reported the five stages of the process as being: -

To establish a community led partnership representing the interests of the local community. With representatives from the community, public, private and voluntary sectors.

To gain community commitment, involvement and participation by informing the community of the health check and encouraging their views both positive and negative about the area.

To create a snapshot of the area by researching statistical information about the area in terms of the economy, environment, social, transportation and access. Also by obtaining direct information from the community about the area.

To create an Immingham Vision by utilising the information gathered together and finding out what the people of the area actually want and need. In order to improve and revitalise the area.

To Prepare an Action Plan to tackle the issues raised in the snapshot and identify a way forward.

Mary reported that this was an unrealistic order and agreed on behalf of the steering group to speak to the Countryside Agency and request what they actually want as this is fairly difficult to achieve within the set time scale ( the end of March).

Roles and Remit:

Rick reported that steering group is required to undertake a Health Check of Immingham and its hinterland (surrounding area) and direct the co-ordinator. The Community Economic Regeneration Team Ltd have been asked to act as co-ordinators of this project.

This process will need to involve and consult the local community (all sectors) by asking peoples opinions about what they want to see in this area and what barriers there are.

Rick reported that there is a lot of supporting statistical information available and suggested that local information such as employment and crime statistics would be readily available from the local authority and from local partnerships and organisations.

Partnership Members are also responsible for feeding back results to the community they represent (from the Immingham Health Check Handout Notes). To prepare an Action Plan.

The Catchment Area:

Rick explained that a Catchment area needed to be agreed in order to identify surrounding areas to Immingham that use its shops, services or travel to work, etc or any areas that have an interest in the future of the town.

Mary informed the group that the geographic boundary should not be constrained by Local Authority boundaries as Immingham is located in North East Lincolnshire but also on the border of North Lincolnshire

The steering group discussed transport routes to and from Immingham and the local villages that may use Immingham for a variety of reasons.

A provisional geographic boundary to be investigated for the 'hinterland' is from A15, North of the A18 up to the coast. The areas included are East Halton, Wooton and Thorton Curtis (not to include Great Coates or Aylesby).

It was agreed that this would provide a starting point but the hinterland boundary may change.

Mary reported that there is existing research that has been carried out by Voluntary Action North Lincs on the Eastern Parishes.

Information

Widening Immingham Partnership:

The group looked at the Country Side Agency’s Guide in terms of incorporating a variety of members from the public, private, voluntary and community sector.

Rick circulated a list for the group to add other contacts they may have.

Any Other Business:

Mary to contact the Country Side Agency and request one of their members to attend a Health Check Meeting.

Rick to start collating the statistical research from the information he already has for the next meeting.

At the next meeting a series of milestones and a time frame in which the process will need to take place will be established.
