The Community Business Environment Team was a project established to enable long term unemployed residents to become equipped with the skills they needed to re-engage in mainstream employment opportunities, create a work history and overcome barriers to work. The work was carried out in a supportive environment but included the opportunity for residents to participate in a "real work" experience and as a result pick up appropriate life and team skills. The Community Business Environment Team provided an Intermediate Labour Market (ILM) designed to deliver work based vocational training, guidance, capacity building and counselling to long term unemployed people from the most disadvantaged areas of North East Lincolnshire and support them into work with local businesses. The project undertook local authority and private contracts in the following areas:
The project worked with groups of fifteen residents over 6 months and repeated the activity frequently . The project was so successful at delivering its work and in assisting residents to take their first steps into employment that the project established a social enterprise to continue the work. Environworks Northern was established and employed a number of past participants to manage and operate the new enterprise. The organisation currently delivers work in both North and North East Lincolnshire and continues to maintain the ethos of the original project. |
